SHA Self Study Plan

A six-week SHA self study plan you can run around night shifts

Most nurses fail the SHA paper because revision is unstructured, not because the science is hard. This roadmap fixes the order: diagnose first, close systems one at a time, then rehearse under exam conditions.

  1. 1

    Week 1

    Diagnostic & fundamentals

Cold mock, nursing process, assessment, safety and communication.

    Checkpoint: A prioritised weakness list.

  2. 2

    Weeks 2–3

    Medical-surgical core

One system per day with a closing question set and rationale review.

    Checkpoint: 80% accuracy per system.

  3. 3

    Week 4

    Maternal, child & community

Pregnancy, newborn, paediatric emergencies plus prevention and health promotion.

    Checkpoint: Two timed mixed sets.

  4. 4

    Week 5

    Pharmacology & calculations

Drug classes, high-alert medicines and 60 timed calculation drills.

Checkpoint: Zero calculation errors under time.

  5. 5

    Week 6

    Rehearsal & booking

Three full timed mocks plus licensing document preparation.

    Checkpoint: Consistent 75%+ mock scores.

How to use the plan each day

45 minutes of notes

Read one subtopic from the notes library and write five recall lines from memory before you close the file.

30 questions

Answer a mixed set on that subtopic and read every rationale, including the ones you got right.

10 minutes of error log

Write why each miss happened — knowledge gap, misread stem or rushed timing. Patterns show up within a week.
